Great news from Mocavo, more indexed records will be coming our way! They will be adding the ability for volunteers anywhere with an internet connection to help make more records searchable.
By using the handwriting recognition software the announced a few months ago, they will be able to automatically detect handwriting on images, and we can enter the information from those images where their automatic OCRing of the records hasn’t been able to help.
I hope this also means the ability to correct transcription problems introduced by the OCR done? And that it will be easy to work on projects based on areas where we are researching, so we can help make these records available for searching more quickly?
Additionally, if projects are location based, societies can work on these projects together, giving them something more to build a strong “community” around. These kinds of projects will be important to help keep a scattered membership invested in an organization when local involvement isn’t possible.
